With the student population of 9000 persons and a staff of 650 experts, Oulu University of Applied Sciences (OUAS) is the biggest tertiary level engineering educator in northern-Finland. Located in the city of Oulu (Capital of Northern-Scandinavia, 200,000 inhabitants), OUAS operates in four campuses, three in Oulu and one in Oulainen (100km south of Oulu).

OUAS gives bachelor and master level degrees in total of 35 degree programs in engineering, health care and social sciences, business information, culture and renewable natural resources. The key focus areas of research, development and innovation (RDI) at OUAS include Future health and well-being and Energy, natural resources and the environment. In the latter we focus on construction and living in the north, intelligent energy solutions and a sustainable, low-carbon natural resource economy.

Besides senior lecturers and lecturers, the staff at OUAS include project managers, project coordinators, project planners and financial officers dedicated to local, regional, national and international projects only. OUAS is the lead partner of the NPA-funded e-Lighthouse project and partner in ongoing Smart-Fish NPA-project. Previously OUAS has been the lead partner for NPP-project Sustainable Living Assistant (SuLA) and partner in OCTES and PELLETime.
